Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi is recruiting for a Transportation Specialist. Seeking a safe driver with a caring and compassionate attitude to provide ambulatory transportation for our patients and clients, including individuals with mobility restrictions, to and from medical and other health-related treatments and/or appointments. This position includes the delivery of COVID-19 related services island-wide and maintains the upkeep of our vans and specialty vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting with the transport of patients/clients who seek the services of the Agency.
  • Safely transports patients/clients to and from treatments and/or appointments using proper care in entering and exiting the vehicle and using appropriate assistance as necessary.
  • Aids and assists clients to safely enter and exit the vehicle by coming to a complete stop, exiting and opening the door and assuring that they are sitting comfortably in the vehicle with their seat-belts fastened, or the wheelchair secured.
  • Accurately documents services provided in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all client enrollment procedures and service protocols are followed.
  • Informs clients of the safety and comfort rules; uses appropriate methods to enforce regulations stipulated during transport.
  • Observes and reports to the Program Manager, Transportation & Facilities other than usual client behaviors during transport and follows through with brief required documentation citing any incidents.
  • Ensures that there will be NO SMOKING or consuming of food or beverages during transportation.
  • Maintains vehicle safety/maintenance records to include daily vehicle inspections, repair/maintenance appointments, and documenting of daily mileage, etc.
  • Adheres to all safe driving rules and regulations, specifically, wearing seat belt and hands-free texting and calling while operating the vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop instant rapport with people.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Excellent ability to communicate with clients and their families in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Must be highly self-directed and able to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education
    • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience
    • One year of experience in Transportation (driving) experience or related field.
    • Proficient use of office equipment such as PC, laptop, tablet, fax machine, scanner, and associated software applications.
  • Licenses/ Certifications
    • Current State of Hawaii Driver's License
    • Clean driver's abstract
  • Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Current TB Clearance (2 step)
    • HIPAA Compliance Training
    • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
    • CPR/AED/First Aid Training
    • COVID-19 vaccination*

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiar with HMONO's mission, programs, and services.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture, traditions, history, and current events. Keep abreast with Native Hawaiian issues and current events.

This position is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and is currently scheduled to end on July 31, 2023. Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy and accommodations for disability and religeous based reasons will be considered.
